Traditional VS Self Publishing Childrens Books
Have you ever wanted to write a children's book? Have you ever wanted to publish a children's book? Before you begin, here are a few things to consider: -TIME: Traditional publishing is a long timeline. It takes on average 1.5 - 2 years for a book to make it to market (this does not include the time it takes to find a literary agent and to get acquired by an editor/publisher). Self-publishing is as fast or slow as you want to take it. How long do you want wait? How fast do you want to go? -MONEY: Authors receive advances, and, once the book sells enough copies, royalties. These advances and royalties are split with the literary agent. In self-publishing, there are no advances or royalties as it is a self-funded venture. Though, you earn more per unit sold in self-publishing compared to traditional publishing. -QUALITY: What will it take to produce a high-quality book, and how can you fund this? The quality of the paper and printing, the quality of the illustrations and graphic design, the quality of the writing and editing, etc.
