Ariel Mendez is an illustrator, author, and an advocate for increasing diversity in children's publishing. She teaches writers how to succeed at self-publishing their first picture book.
Ariel's first book, Fear and a Friend, was self-published in 2018 and was selected by Kickstarter as a "Project We Love". Ariel has contributed to three self-published books, including Hair Like Me that was featured on NBC and HLN, and My First Book of Shona and Ndebele Words, a book about the two native languages of Zimbabwe.
Ariel leads workshops on the topic of writing and self-publishing. She has worked with The Writer's Center, Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, The Children's Inn at the National Institute of Health, and various other organizations.
